The seven cars is Marlip, Maleo, Gea, Wasps, Komodo, Timor and Esemka Digdaya, as well as additional Esemka Rajawali.On of them that closer to success but unfortunately still unlucky is Timor. Timor stands for Teknologi Industri Mobil Rakya. Timor had hits in the 90s produced by PT. Timor Putra Nasional. In the first quarter of 2012, Indonesia remains strong GDP figures are at 6.3%, and predicted the end of the year will continue to rise to 6.5%. That number puts Indonesia as the country with the largest national economy in Southeast Asia. Great potential is encouraging almost all APM(Agen pemegang merek)in Indonesia to continue to enhance the value of its investment in the national automotive industry with menanbah production capacity and also add options to their product line in the market. This aggressive movement of APM also widen the opportunities to compete at the forefront of Indonesia in ASEAN.
Threat.
One of the threats of National car is the existence of cheap cars environmentally friendly (LCGC) in Indonesia threaten the sustainability of the national car project. Another threat come from our internal or society since perspective on local product is not good. Many Indonesian do not trust to the quality of local product. The perception of local product is low quality and bad ,they prefer to use Japanese brand like Toyota ,Honda and Suzuki. Moreover, the Japanese brand has already dominated automotive industry in Indonesia. Toyota who is the market leader automotive industry in Indonesia playing significant role until dominated the market. Toyota has big power and resources, and also has the best quality management even more than US, Europe and UK manufacturer.
Suggestion
The government should bring together all the potential of the nation to support the establishment of a national car. The synergy of all stakeholders will generate tremendous power and instituted a quality product. Understandably, the development of a national car impressed walk alone. No pooling all the potential of the nation to focus on producing a superior product that can become as the national car. We should learn from our neighborhood Malaysia with Proton national cars, we should have strong vision and work hard together between central, local government and also local industry that support National car project. In terms of materials we have a ton of raw materials like metal etc, even though the entry barriers is big and not easy to enter into the competition of automotive industry. Since it need big capital, long term investment, qualified human resources, and good management and competes against big playes.However, we should look optimism that Indonesia can have own identity which is National car if we can elaborate our internal strength points to make our National car project can be done in short period of time.
